Each and every day in the U.S., two women die due to complications from pregnancy and childbirth, and two babies die every hour. The majority are women and babies of color and Black women and babies are most affected.
The U.S. is among the most dangerous developed nations in which to give birth– especially if you are Black. Black women are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. Black babies are twice as likely to die before their first birthday. And it’s not their fault.

Why It Starts with Mom?
The reality is, motherhood is hard. From preterm to postpartum. To infants and toddlers. To big kids and pre-teens. We are utilizing our platform to bring together our community’s thought leaders and equip moms to become their own best advocates in dealing with some of today’s biggest challenges.
It Starts with Mom Live: Texas Edition is a virtual event series providing education, information and resources to help navigate pregnancy and motherhood. These events are part of a larger MOVEMENT that goes far beyond a virtual event. As the leader in the fight for the health of all moms and babies, we are the advocate that so many moms, moms-to-be and women who may become pregnant across the country are seeking. Especially now, when they need us most.
